Today I show you the last part of Chobe National Parc – the amazing elephants! At any point of the journey I stopped counting because there were so many of these wonderful grey giants. It was simply wonderful to observe them at the water, playing in the mud or running across the savanna. Just on the way out of the parc we found a group of lions lying in the shade, with fat bellys that the could hardly breath…a few meters further we found the reason why: They killed a baby elephant…the vultures and marabous fighted for the left-overs. Sad but natural…
Ihaha is one of the Campsites inside the national parc, so we had a whole day to drive around and enjoy the beautiful wildlife in Chobe. Driving around was not always that easy because of animals crossing our way. We had to wait a long time until a huge herd of buffalos passed by to reach the river. And that was not the last experience with the buffalos this day… in the night at Ihaha Campsite we woke up from a indefinable noise. When we looked out of our tents we saw hundreds of buffalos crossing the river – wow! On the other side of the river (Namibia) there were huge fires 😦 Later on our journey we learned that a lot of fields are set on fire to make the ground more fertile. So let’s hope that it was just another field burning and no area in the wild.
When we saw our first twiga (suaheli for giraffe) everybody was like wooow…then we saw more and more and it got quiet normal that these beautiful animals are walking around everywhere. But in Chobe National Parc the woooow came back when we observed them at the water, drinking and eating grass from the ground…fascinating! Another great thing to watch is that giraffes are taxi and restaurant for some little birds…they pick the bugs out of the giraffes skin – a win-win situation 😉
On the way from Kubu to Maun we passed a national monument of Botswana – one of the biggest baobab trees. We saw the first elephant and I promise you no one would have thought that there will be hundreds more of them! Flying over the Okanvango Delta was another highlight, we saw giraffes, elephants, buffalos, hippos and even a group of rhinos with a baby from above! Despite all the animals I really enjoyed this gorgeous landscape ♥ On the way to Chobe national parc we passed another group of elephants, almost perfecty camouflaged but spotted anyway 😉 The giraffes on the way didn’t care much about our car…eating was more important.
Take a closer look to find Stephan and to see how big this tree really is 😉
